                                    9Overdue Fines and Damage/Loss Charges: Overdue fines are not charged. Community patrons are notified once by campus email and by telephone, if necessary, when materialsare overdue.Damaged, lost, or non-returned items are charged at the replacement cost of the item plus a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee or $40.00 minimum for books (plus processing fee), $20.00 minimum for Children%u2019s Collection books (plus processing fee), $35.00 minimum for multimedia (plus processing fee), and $25.00 minimum for magazines (plus processing fee). Borrowing privileges are suspended when any item becomes overdue.  Borrowing privileges resume when the item(s) are returned. Violations of library rules may result in revocation of the user's borrowing privileges and/or equipment usage.Laptop Return RegulationsBeginning one day after the designated return date for the same semester in which the laptop was borrowed, a 5-day grace period will begin. If a student fails to return an overdue laptop by the end of the 5-day grace period, Student Accounts will be notified and their account will be charged. However, if the value of any unreturned item exceeds $1,000, immediate action must be taken to ensure compliance. Student Accounts and the CFO must be notified within 72 hours after the item was due so appropriate measures may be taken.The Student Use Agreement (reviewed and signed copy required prior to laptop checkout) includes the return policy for laptops. It explicitly states that the borrowing student will have \and that charges will not be removed if it is not returned by 60 days after the return due date. Library staff will send a list to IT, the Bursar Office, and Purchasing containing the names of all students with outstanding laptops. This list will include PU numbers to facilitate appropriate actions such as tracking, retrieval, disabling, removal from inventory, etc. When a student returns a laptop after the 5-day grace period but before the 60-day cutoff date, the laptop must be assessed by UA-PTC Information Technology Services to verify whether the laptop remains in good working condition. After condition assessment of the laptop, IT will inform Library staff accordingly. If the laptop is deemed to be in good condition, the Library staff will notify Student Accounts to remove the charges. However, if the laptop is damaged, it will not be removed from the student%u2019s library account. The student will remain responsible for the billed charges. The Library will inform Student Accounts of the damaged laptop, and Student Accounts will contact the student to notify them of the outstanding balance. If a student reports that the laptop has been stolen or damaged during a significant weather event, the following steps are required: 1. The borrowing student will contact Campus police and fill out a police report.2. Campus police will notify the Library if the claim is determined to be valid.3. The Library will then email IT, Student Accounts, Student Affairs, and Purchasing with the student's information and laptop PU number so appropriate measures may be taken such as tracking, retrieval, disabling, removal from inventory, maintenance and repair, and removal of charges (if applicable).
